FAQ

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE PIERCED AREA?

If you have any questions or concerns, remember that we are here for you. Don't be afraid to ask. Please make an appointment in advance for both piercing and earring replacement. We would like to give you maximum attention and time. You can make an appointment in several ways: by phone, e-mail or by booking an appointment through our calendar.

WHAT TO CLEAN A FRESH PIERCING WITH?

Maintaining general hygiene is crucial here. There are quite a few products for cleaning the pierced area, so everyone will find something suitable.

Recommended and most commonly used products by piercers are:

• Isotonic seawater, which you can purchase from us.

• Physiological saline solution.

• Colloidal silver (available at the pharmacy, ONLY after prior consultation). The only contraindication is an allergy to silver (in the case of using colloidal silver).

• Intimate hygiene solution or liquid gray soap.

• For oral piercing hygiene, use Dentosept, prepared according to the instructions on the package.

HOW TO CLEAN A PIERCED AREA?

• Wash your hands thoroughly before touching or cleaning the piercing.

• Moisten a cotton swab with isotonic seawater and use it to cleanse the lymph/plasma from the pierced area. Additionally, before the actual cleansing with the cotton swab, you can moisten a sterile gauze with isotonic seawater or physiological saline to soften any dried discharge.

• Gently dry with sterile gauze, a hygienic tissue, or a paper towel. In the case of cleansing the piercing while showering with liquid gray soap or intimate hygiene solution, gently cleanse the pierced area, not leaving the solution on for longer than 30 seconds, and then rinse thoroughly, patting it dry afterward with sterile gauze, a hygienic tissue, or a paper towel.

Avoid using Octenisept, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or any antibiotic ointments for wound cleansing and care. In the event of visible redness, worsening of the wound, or the appearance of any changes around the piercing, promptly contact your piercer.

WHAT IS NORMAL?

Initial stages of wound healing may include swelling, slight bleeding, redness, bruising, and sensitivity. This can last for the first seven to fourteen days. Of course, this period may be extended as it depends on the individual’s body.

Every piercing may heal differently.

There may also be swelling, slight secretion of plasma, lymph (bright white/yellow fluid – not pus). Remember that every pull or hook on the earring can cause more swelling, redness, and secretion of plasma/lymph.

Do not remove earrings before full healing, as this can result in bacteria entering the fresh wound and subsequent infection. Fresh piercings also close up quickly. The wound heals faster from the outside, and even though it looks fine, the tissue inside remains unstable. Therefore, it may seem healed to us before the healing process is completed. The healing process can be lengthy, so patience is required, and you must care for the piercing site all the time, even if it seems to be healed.

Even piercings that are several years old can shrink or close up very quickly.

IN SUMMARY, WHAT’S MOST IMPORTANT:

– Don’t touch the earring more than necessary. Excessive jewelry manipulation can result in irritation, bending, or tissue damage.

– Avoid skincare products containing alcohol.

– Smoking, alcohol consumption, and substances prolong the piercing healing processes.

– Do not take aspirin in the first few days after the piercing. The same applies to excessive caffeine intake.

– Long baths, saunas, pools, and water tanks should be avoided for at least a month and a half after piercing.

– In the case of facial piercings, avoid powdering, applying heavy creams, fluids, etc.

– For sleeping, it’s best to buy a travel pillow, so you can sleep on your side with the earring.

– Maintaining a generally healthy lifestyle supports healing, so get enough sleep, avoid stress (if possible), and eat healthily.

– Stress can extend the piercing healing time by up to half. A weakened body or the menstrual cycle phase also affects wound healing. To facilitate the entire process and strengthen the body’s ability to fight infections, take daily nutritional supplements, including iron, vitamins B, C, and zinc in appropriate doses.

– Most importantly, don’t underestimate any changes you observe on your body after piercing. Sometimes anomalies may occur a few months after getting the piercing. It’s best to consult your piercer about any changes. The advice we provide is quite general, so rely on your own observations of your body, remembering that these recommendations cannot replace medical advice. Sometimes it’s advisable to seek medical opinion.

Finally, remember that there are no stupid questions. Write or call us.

CAN I EXERCISE AFTER PIERCING?

In the first stage of healing, avoid excessive physical activity. After a bellybutton and nipple piercing, do not do abdominal and chest exercises or sleep on your belly. Watch out for high waist trousers, belts with big buckles, loosely knitted sweaters, or tight shirts. For other types of piercing, make sure that the piercing is not damaged or gets too much sweat.

WHAT ABOUT REPLACING THE PIERCING AFTER THE HEALING PERIOD?

Most piercings made in our studio (except for standard earlobe and bellybutton piercings) include the cost of replacing the jewellery with a shorter one*.

*gold jewellery, coloured, with crystals or in any other shape is extra paid, as well as buying another piercing ball.

CAN I REMOVE THE PIERCING?

Remember that the piercing should not be removed during the entire healing period. Earlier replacement/removal may result in irritation of the puncture channel and possible later complications.

DO I NEED A SPECIAL DIET?

Remember that proper hydration and a good supplementation have a positive effect on the whole piercing healing process. If the body is healthy and does not lack vitamins, it regenerates faster. Vitamin deficiency or body weakness may result in various problems in the healing process. It is also worth remembering to give up smoking and alcohol after piercing your nose or mouth. Use of these substances may lead to prolonged healing time and irritation of the piercing.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL A PIERCING?

Most piercings take minimum 12 weeks to heal. The exceptions are smiley and  tongue, which take around 6-8 weeks to heal.

CAN I SWIM AND SUNBATHE?

Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, seas and rivers for at least 2 months or even till healing proces will be completed. During this period, also give up on taking long baths and replace them with a quick shower. Do not use the sauna, jacuzzi or thermal baths. Also, do not use natural sunbathing and tanning beds.
